storehouse fund Letter to YWAM about the storehouse fund

Dear fellow YWAMers,

The Storehouse Fund continues to prove its worth in emergency situations. From time to time we have crises in which there is simply not time to srpead the news, take up an offering and then send the funds to the point in need.

One recent example was our DTS team in Southern Sudan. After an evening of showing the Jesus Film in villages, their van was ambushed by gunmen.

From Sudan, Mike Wentzel wrote:

“It is Monday, (May) 7th and we wanted to update people who have been praying for Sudan over the past week. Thank you for you prayers. Most of you know a team we were hosting in northern Sudan was ambushed on Thursday, April 26th in the Nuba Mountains. Three Sudanese and one Egyptian were killed. The three Sudanese who died were from the local church in the Nuba Mountains, while the Egyptian was in the country with another organization. A number of others were wounded, including a YWAM staff member and student from Egypt. They are all doing well physically and flew home to Egypt a few days ago. The motive of the attack is still unclear.

Since then we have also removed a second outreach team we were hosting in central Sudan after heavy gunfire during the night of Friday, May 4th. While the team was not targeted or injured, it left them shaken as they were still processing the news about the team in the Nuba Mountains.

Finally, we received news from our long-term team in Yei, southern Sudan that their driver from Uganda passed away suddenly of kidney failure on Friday, May 4th. Although he was not a full-time YWAM staff member involved in ministry, he certainly he was a key part of their team.”

We were able to make a substantial contribution to the evacuation costs that resulted from this tragedy.

We have also been able to help with around $2,000 for Kobus van Niekerk to help our team in the tragic nation of Zimbabwe. He recently wrote,

“Our people are really suffering although they have been very brave in the situation and remain quite hopeful. We still run a base and we also do have a program for orphans and the resettling of war veterans. Many of these veterans were only trained to do warfare and has done nothing else since having been child soldiers. Despite all the uphill battles of surviving without even the most basic necessities, they still run a DTS every year and they still try and do outreaches etc. But even getting fuel to go anywhere means having to cross over into Botswana to do so and then they get ripped off at the border when coming back into Zim.

We often had to raise all their support for these outreaches from outside of their country. Their currency is worth nothing, and will not be exchanged by any other country, but even though they might have had the money, there is no food available to buy. Even soap has become a total luxury and on one of my last trips in, they have been without soap for close on three months. But the food supply or rather lack of it, is of course far worse.

I am responding to an urgent call from them to take in food again. We have had several individuals and businesses donating some things although it has been on very short notice. I will be going in tomorrow and will really value your prayers!”

As you can see, the Storehouse is huge blessing in times of crisis needs that are beyond the ability of a team or base to meet. Please do take up an offering for the Storehouse Fund from your base or team and send it to me.

In His Peace,

Lynn Green
